SCCW March 16, 2016 Meeting

The 12:45 meeting opened with the Prayer to Our Lady of Good Counsel.  Present were:  President Barbara Byrne, Ella Mae Gaylord, Joyce Hartl, Diane Johannesen, and Barbara Janssen.

Minutes of the February 18, 2016, Meeting.  No minutes were taken; Barbara Byrne and Diane Johannesen were the only ones in attendance.

Treasurer's Report.  Diane reported a balance of $4,179.25.  $1,820 was deposited from the St. Patrick's Day Dinner.  Barbara Byrne will be reimbursed for $29.40 for items she purchased at Decker's - Kool Aid, etc.  Unpaid bills include one from Flo for the meat and other items and The Sundance Times for the ads, which have not been received.

Correspondence.  A thank-you note from Deacon Andrew Kinstetter for the $50 check for Christmas was read.

Unfinished Business.

1.     Spring Deanery.  It will be in Sheridan April 18.  Lunch can be paid for there.  Volunteer hours need to be sent in by April 30.  So far, no one is attending.

Feedback on St. Patrick's Day Dinner.

1.  Salads.  Who is in charge?  Someone needs to be designated.   It was noted there were 3 salads that were not put out.  There were some that had little left and were on the table.  Suggestion made was:  When there are real small amounts, take them off the table and make sure all are put out.

2.  More Workers.  A couple shifts were short.

3.  Sugar-Free Desserts.  Perhaps eliminate them; hardly anyone eats them.

4.  Changing Times for the Dinner.  Ella Mae suggested we change the times to 11:00 - 2:00 or 2:30.  That way there isn't so much time lapse from the end of Mass until parishioners can eat.  Also, there were just a few who ate from 2:00 - 3:00.

5.  Salads.  Perhaps there were too many?

6.  Desserts.  Debbie can probably give us a report on them.

7.  Attendees.  Numbers were down; there were 113 adults.  Usually there are between 135-150.  Perhaps the extra-nice weather contributed to this.

8.  A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE CCD STUDENTS WHO HELPED; YOU DID A FABULOUS JOB!!

New Business.

Receptions/Gifts for Confirmation.  There are 5 boys and 2 girls:  Kate Sell, Tori Wheeler, Eland Rivers, Lance Weaver, Josh Hunkins, Will Hunkins, and Josiah Rudloff.  It will be held Wednesday, April 20, in Newcastle.  Plans are being made to host a reception at St. Paul's Sunday, April 24, after Mass.

Catholic High School Graduates.  Barb J. will obtain a list of graduates from the Sundance High School office.

First Communion.  Barb J. will check with Carol Jordan to verify if there are any candidates.

Meeting Time and Dates for S.C.C.W.  Programs.  Tabled.

Seminarian Andrew Kinstetter.  He will be ordained into the priesthood in May.  Ella Mae moved, seconded by Joyce, to send him $100; motion carried.

If necessary we will put 3M non-slip pads down and replace as needed.

Deanery Meeting:  Barbara said we really don’t have a theme this year, we will just decorate with fall colors. Decorating will be done on Monday evening, October 5th at 7:00 p.m. All women are asked to come help decorate and bring any fall decorations they have. Cindy will look for fall placemats and pick up plates, bowls, silverware, napkins, and 8 oz. bottled water at Sam’s Club.            The neighbor at the end of the parking lot noticed a strange car parked behind the church one night. She got concerned and phoned the police. They came up and took care of the situation. The neighbor wasn’t aware of what took place between the police and the owners of the vehicle. We all need to make sure the church is locked at all times.

     2.  Parish Council has a parishioner that is interested in this position for $13 per hour, 2 hours a week in the Church, and rectory cleaning once a month.
     3.  Parish Council will draw up a work contract and job description (vacuum, bathrooms, and empty trash) and will be responsible.
     4.  Parish Council has purchased 2 new vacuums.
     5.  Parish Council will take care of the cost, but, perhaps S.C.C.W. dues collected will go toward the expense.

Application To Mary's Fund For Father's Water Project in Kenya.  The deadline is April 20; Barbara B. will get a hold of Father Killian.

NEW BUSINESS.
Mother's Day.  We decided to hand out carnations to all mothers after Mass on Mother's Day, which is Sunday, May 10.

First Communion Sunday.  A reception for everyone will be held after Mass Sunday, June 7, 2015.  Barb J. has ordered the cake, called parents, sent letters of invitation to the First Communicants' families; and Mary Hengstler will purchase the gifts.  Tami was given a list of information for setting up/serving the First Communion reception.  It was suggested that younger S.C.C.W. members take care of the reception.  Get a hold of Barb J. if you have questions regarding the reception.

Graduation.  There are no Catholic graduates this year.

Fall Deanery.
It will be in Sundance, probably in September.  The date has not been set for us, as it has not been determined by the Deanery.

Unfinished Business.
Church Cleaning.  After discussion, it was decided that more information is needed before a decision is made about hiring the work done, such as:
     1.  A complete job description--who makes this up?
     2.  What happens if the person cannot work--who then does the work?
     3.  How often will the cleaning be done?
     4.  The cost:  (at $13/hour, 8 hours a month, the cost will be $1,248 per year).  Will Parish Council be paying the total amount?

Bifulco Baby.  Diane will take care of the gift.

Feedback - St. Patrick's Dinner.  Delicious!  Have someone in charge of salads, just as there are those in charge of desserts, so they are all put out, etc.  More deviled eggs--popular!

New Business.  The Fall Deanery meeting will be here.  No date has been set.  Upton (Barb Ondriezek) will do the "welcome bags", decorations, and door prizes.  Perhaps we will combine with Hulett, Upton, and St. Paul's for this meeting.

FEBRUARY 2015 MINUTES

The noon meeting opened with the Prayer to Our Lady of Good counsel.  Present were:  Fr. Killian, Barbara Byrne, Joyce Hartl, Ella Mae Gaylord, Diane Johannesen, Cindy Hansen, Pat Brannock, and Barbara Janssen.

Minutes of the December 12, 2014, meeting.  The minutes were read and approved.  There was no January, 2015, meeting.

Treasurer's Report.  The balance is $2,076.77.  Bills to be paid are:  $150 - for half of Mike Easley's Christmas gift; Parish Council is also paying half and $84.00 - Flo for doughnuts.    Diane moved, seconded by Ella Mae, to donate $100 for the Post Prom Party; motion carried.

Correspondence.  A thank-you note from our adopted seminarian, Andrew Kinstetter was read;  he appreciates all we have done.

Diane - Comments About the Plastic Bottle Caps.  For 5 pounds of caps collected, the postage was $16.  There are 2 distribution places in Florida where these go to help purchase wheelchairs for people who cannot afford them.  She will find out how much a pound of these amounts to monetarily and report back to us.  It was mentioned that maybe it would be more feasible to donate money.

Father Killian.  Father shared much information on the water shortage crisis in his village: the difficulty in obtaining water, the effects of drought, clean water, water storage tanks for homes, drilling wells, and other concerns.  He is pretty much the sole person concerning this project.  He will get a report back to us regarding how we as parishioners can be of help.  Barbara Byrne also suggested he apply to the Mary's Fund showing the critical need for clean water and enough of it.
